Press Release - Top musicians set to play Duns

A newly reformed band comprising some of Scotland’s most established musicians is set to perform at Duns Volunteer Hall in February. The band, called Spatz & Co, is a 7 strong Showband, and they will be performing their show entitled “Feelin’ Good”.

The music spans 60 years, ranging from the ever popular Big Band sounds of Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington to the 70s/ 80’s songs of Gerry Rafferty, Van Morrison and Billy Joel.

The line-up is impressive in that it comprises long established professionals who collectively perform on up to 17 instruments during a performance. Bandleader Roy Mac says “I’ve gathered together a group of musicians on the basis of “my dream team” and they come from a mix of musical genres. Every one is an accomplished soloist, and in some cases are bandleaders in their own right. The collective experience on stage is therefore substantial.”
Although there is an element of Jazz influence in the band’s arrangements, the focus is very firmly on melody, and the programme comprises a series of instrumentals, songs, ballads that are among the most popular hits throughout the 20’s – 80’s period. Roy added, “For this show we’ve compiled a playlist with a wide appeal, the common thread being strength of melody. Being a 7 strong band with many more instruments at our disposal means arrangements have been specially written. I drafted in the services of Eliot Murray who writes for the BBC Big Band. We are not a tribute band, and so it’s important that wherever possible our music has a Spatz & Co feel to it.”

Tickets are about to go on sale for the concert, which is being organised by Rotary Club of Duns, with proceeds destined for the charity Cancer Research UK. The event is being staged on Saturday 13th February, 7.15pm and ticket price includes a buffet.
